OFFICIAL TOYOTA INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND AT BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, FOLLOWING EARL STEWART TOYOTA INFORMATION.
CAUTION - PLEASE READ ANY MAIL YOU RECEIVE CLAIMING TO BE ABOUT THE TOYOTA RECALL VERY CAREFULLY. THERE ARE NON-TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS MAILING SOLICITATIONS DISGUISED AS OFFICIAL NOTICES FROM TOYOTA. FOR EXAMPLE, NAPLETON NISSAN HAS SENT OUT A MASS MAILER DESIGNED TO MISLEAD CUSTOMERS INTO THINKING IT IS AN OFFICIAL TOYOTA RECALL NOTICE. IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANY CORRESPONDENCE, PLEASE CALL US AT 1-800-378-5111.

There are five recall campaigns underway: The floor mat/accelerator issue; the potential sticking accelerator pedal; the Prius brake issue; and the Camry brake issue. Please scroll down below to see specifically which Toyota vehicles are affected.

Contrary to some media reports, there is no Corolla power steering recall. NHTSA has initiated a preliminary investigation in response to approximately 168 complaints worldwide about steering drift in the Corolla. The purpose of the preliminary ivestigation is to examine the complaints received on the NHTSA web site to determine if further investigation is warranted.

Regarding the sticky accelerator pedal issue, Earl Stewart Toyota has repaired nearly 2000 thousand recalled vehicles, including affected accelerator pedals in our customers' vehicles. Working after hours, after customer cars are taken care of, we have repaired most of our inventory that was affected. We have ample supplies of the necessary part and and we are equipped to take care of everyone.

NEW: Regarding the floor mat entrapment recall, we have begun repairs on only Camry and Avalon at this point. The next vehicle for this repair will be the Highlander Hybrid, followed by the Prius, Corolla, then the Matrix. As is the case with all recalls, please look for information sent to you directly from Toyota about when you can bring your vehicle in. However, when we get information we will give this to our customers as soon as we get it.

We have posted information about the Camry brake recall below. As you will see, this is very small in scope and not likely to affect many (if any) of our customers.

NEW: Regarding the 2010 Tacoma recall: This affects approximately 7600 4 wheel drive Tacoma trucks nationally. Most of these are at dealerships. Only about 1000 customer cars are affected (about 20 in Florida). The propeller shaft in the affected vehicles may contain a component that can crack over time. Replacement parts for the repair are being manufactured at this time and will be made available to dealers by the end of next week (week of 3/8/10). Letters to customers will go out mid March.

Regarding the Prius recall, Earl Stewart Toyota is up and running with the software update that fixes the problem. Details below.

Toyota has issued a voluntary recall of the 2010 Prius.Toyota has received complaints of inconsistent brake feel during slow and steady application of brakes on rough or slick road surfaces when the anti-lock brake system (ABS) is activated in an effort to maintain tire traction. The system, in normal operation, engages and disengages rapidly (many times per second) as the control system senses and reacts to tire slippage. If the same brake pedal force is applied under these conditions, in the worst case, this may lead to an increase of vehicle stopping distance and thus raise the likelihood of a crash.

Prius Safety Recall Remedy: We are installing a software update that fixes the ABS response time. Earl Stewart Toyota has begun with the updates and we are ready to accomodate ALL customers at this time. PLEASE CALL (561)721-0678. The update takes about 20 minutes, but the whole process involves about an hour wait time. We recommend making an appointment to minimize your wait.

Toyota has issued a voluntary recall of a limited number of early production 2010 Camrys: This involves 7,314 units worldwide – only about 170 in the state of Florida. On 7,314 early production 2010 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 4 cylinder (2AR-FE) engine, a power steering pressure hose in the engine compartment may be the incorrect length. If this condition exists, a crimp on the power steering pressure hose may come in contact with the No. 7 Front Brake Tube (“brake tube”). Should this condition continue, a hole may wear in the brake tube and deplete the brake fluid in the vehicle. As a result, the brake pedal stroke will increase and lead to greater vehicle stopping distance.

Camry Safety Recall Remedy: We request Toyota dealers to inspect and if necessary adjust the space between the brake tube and the power steering pressure hose crimp on the affected vehicles. Based upon the inspection results, the brake tube may need to be replaced. The inspection/adjustment and, if necessary, the brake tube replacement, will be performed at NO CHARGE to the vehicle owner.

To take care of all recall issues, customers can call to schedule an appointment OR just bring their vehicle in. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND CALLING FOR AN APPOINTMENT TO AVOID LONGER WAIT TIME. We also have a mobile repair unit that can go directly to the customer (for the sticking accelerator fix). Please call 561-721-0678.
