2016 Toyota Mirai

The 2016 Toyota Mirai Highlights New Fuel Cell Technology

Toyota has long been a pioneer in the development of green, fuel-efficient, sustainable vehicles like the current 2015 Toyota Prius, and the automaker has made another bold leap with the introduction of the 2016 Toyota Mirai. Once it hits the market, this hydrogen fuel cell vehicle will be unlike anything else on the road. Learn how it works and what it offers to get a glimpse of the future of automobiles.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powertrain

The 2016 Toyota Mirai converts abundant, clean hydrogen gas into propulsion though a sophisticated, multi-step process. First, hydrogen is pumped into carbon-fiber storage tanks for secure storage. Once the vehicle is in motion, oxygen flows though the large front grille and directed to a fuel cell stack. Hydrogen is also sent to the stack, where it undergoes a chemical reaction with the oxygen and produces electricity. That electricity then powers an electric motor. Rather than producing exhaust, the only byproduct is pure water. This innovative powertrain puts out 151 hp and an impressive 247 lb-ft of torque while maintaining a range of about 300 miles. Refilling the fuel tanks takes no more than five minutes.

Features and Amenities

In addition to its utter efficiency, the 2016 Toyota Mirai comes equipped with the best of today’s automotive technologies. The steering wheel is heated and has integrated controls. All versions feature a premium JBL stereo with app integration handled through an intelligent touchscreen display. Noise-canceling glass ensures that the cabin is always quite and calm, and eight-way power front seats help both driver and passenger find the most comfortable position for long and short drives alike.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai is in Limited Release Only

Unfortunately, the 2016 Toyota Mirai will probably not be available in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, or Jupiter this year. Toyota is making the car in limited numbers and for now, it is only on the market in California. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be more broadly released in the future, so keep in touch with Earl Stewart Toyota to stay up-to-date. If you’re currently looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, however, there are plenty of other great choices in the Toyota lineup like the Toyota Prius, so visit the dealership at 1215 U.S. 1 in Lake Park, FL to explore them all.
