How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid on city street

You’ve got options when it comes to charging an electric new vehicle in Palm Beach County, all involving different plugs and ports. However, with available charging adapters, you won’t be locked into just one charging method. How long does it take to charge an electric car? The electric car charging time depends on which of the three options you pick. Earl Stewart Toyota wants you to be an informed EV shopper, which is why we’re explaining the electric car charging time to you. Value your trade with us and get an even better deal!

What are My Electric Car Charging Options?

Level 1 (110/120 volts)

When you go with a level 1 car charger, your West Palm Beach electric car charging time is the slowest, but you don’t require any additional electrical infrastructure. How long does it take to charge an electric car with this method? You get about 4-5 miles per hour when you charge this way, meaning an overnight charge will give you a day or two of charge. Still, you can plug your car into a normal three-prong outlet.

Level 2 (240 volts)

This method requires you get an electrician to come to your home to install a 240-volt charger in your garage. However, this expense is well worth it, as it means you’ll be able to get a full charge on your vehicle when you leave it plugged in overnight. This is a great idea for people who don’t want to go over to an electric charging station.

Level 3 (AKA DC Fast Charger)

This is something you can only find at charging stations, and it’s ideal for Palm Beach Gardens drivers on road trips or at the grocery store. How long does it take to charge an electric car this way? You can get a full charge in about 90 minutes on average when you plug in at a DC fast charger. It’s perfect for people on road trips too, because in the time it takes to get a meal and grab snacks for the road, you could be set for the next 100 miles or more!
