2015 Toyota PriusThe 2015 Toyota Prius has been a benchmark of the hybrid industry for well over a decade. A leader in the green energy revolution, the 2015 model is even more fuel-efficient than any that have come before. See what kind of power and fuel efficiency you’ll get when you buy the new Prius.

2015 Toyota Prius MPG Ratings

The 2015 Toyota Prius uses a special electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission, or ECVT, to control the gears. This ECVT transmission provides for an impressive 50 mpg average, or 51 mpg city and 48 mpg highway. This makes the Prius the perfect choice for a long commute or running errands–in fact, for any everyday car usage.

Performance Capabilities

The 2015 Toyota Prius Hatchback has a 1.8L four-cylinder engine with intelligent Variable Valve Timing (VVT), which works with the electric motor to tailor your power needs to your driving experience. It’s combined with an electric motor that has an output of 60 kW, using a nickel-metal hybrid battery. Together, the engine and motor can put out 134 hp and153 lb-ft of torque.

The Prius is easy to drive around town, with decent acceleration and effortless maneuvering thanks to the small chassis and flexible steering. It also feels stable at highway speeds, and not too light to take on the freeway. The ride is comfortable and responsive.

How It Works

The Prius Hybrid Synergy Drive uses an electric motor to get your car started. You can power it by the gasoline engine alone, or the electric motor alone, or even a combination of both; the car will monitor your speed and energy needed from the engine and automatically use the most efficient mode to provide you with the best fuel efficiency you can get for the best performance.

Control Your Hybrid

For manual control over your driving style, Prius offers three driver-selectable modes besides the “normal” mode, which automatically adjusts fuel modes for balanced power. The EV mode allows the Prius to run using the battery power alone for distances up to one mile, which can be perfect for running errands. The ECO mode provides great fuel economy by adjusting the climate control and throttle input. The POWER mode provides enough power to create a truly spirited driving experience.
