Drivers near West Palm Beach have great things to say about the 2019 Toyota RAV4 and the 2019 Honda CR-V, but which one is right for your West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens drives? Comparing the Toyota RAV4 vs. Honda CR-V, it only takes a moment to see that the RAV4 stands in a league of its own. We’ve broken down the performance capabilities and safety features of the RAV4 vs. CR-V, below!

Driver-Focused Performance: RAV4 vs. CR-V

Since the Toyota RAV4 starts with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, and the CR-V starts with a 2.4-L 4-cylinder engine, drivers near West Palm Beach or Palm Beach County might assume that these two SUVs are near equals. However, although their specs aren’t too far apart, the RAV4 retains the advantage no matter what you’re looking for in your next compact SUV:

  • The RAV4 baseline engine is stronger than the CR-V engine, with 203 hp compared to 184 hp. Although upper-level CR-V trims are available with a turbocharged engine, the Honda never delivers more than 190 hp.
  • The RAV4 and the CR-V both start with front-wheel drive, and both get 26 mpg on city streets, too! However, with 35 mpg highway, the RAV4 has the edge over the CR-V. The latter earns just 32 mpg highway in its baseline trim.
  • The CR-V comes standard with a Continuously Variable Transmission, while the RAV4 includes an 8-Speed Automatic Transmission. Both enhance efficiency, but only the RAV4 lets you switch things up with a built-in manual mode.
  • The CR-V can never tow more than 1,500 pounds, but the RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 pounds in its upgraded Adventure trim level! The latter also offers Dynamic Torque-Vectoring All-Wheel Drive, which offers a more engaging touring experience than the AWD system offered for the CR-V.

Advanced Driver-Assistance for Your Palm Beach County Drives

The RAV4 and the CR-V both come standard with their own suite of advanced driver assistance features, but when we compare the features that each package includes, it’s easy to see why many prefer the RAV4.

Honda Sensing and Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0) both include adaptive cruise control, forward collision prevention, and a lane departure warning. However, only the TSS 2.0 offers the following additional technologies:

  • Automatic High-Beam Headlights – These bright lights automatically dim themselves when another driver is approaching, and they light up again once they’re safely behind you.
  • Lane Tracing Assist – When you engage the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control in the RAV4, your system will provide the added convenience of keeping you centered in your lane.
  • Road Sign Assist – When you’re paying attention to the road, keeping track of road signs isn’t always easy. RSA detects signs and displays their information directly on your multi-information display.

Although neither model offers a standard blind spot monitor or a rear cross traffic monitor, the RAV4 earns yet another advantage by offering both as options in its baseline trim! You’ll have to upgrade to a more expensive configuration to access these features in the CR-V.
