Trims and Features

No matter which trim level you choose, you’re guaranteed plenty of fun, comfort, and safety.

• LE: Starting with the base trim, you’ll get Bluetooth connectivity, a 6.1-inch Entune touchscreen interface, a sliding and reclining second row seat, folding third row seat, and standard seating for eight passengers. You’ll also enjoy soft touch materials throughout the cabin, a rearview camera, and cruise control.
• LE Plus: By upgrading to the LE Plus, you’ll get automatic climate control in all three rows, plus a wide range of advanced technologies, including satellite radio, HD radio, and the Entune Audio Plus system with an advanced navigation app. This trim also adds a power liftgate for easy access to the cargo area.
• XLE: Step up to the XLE trim, and enjoy premium leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a power moonroof. This trim also gets an upgraded version of the Entune Audio system with smartphone app integration.
• Limited: This version of the Toyota Highlander reduces seating to seven, but makes for particularly comfortable second-row seating for adult passengers since they get their own sliding and reclining captain’s chairs. This trim also includes heated and ventilated front seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, and advanced safety features like blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Performance Specs

Take your pick between two capable engine choices, both of which come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine on the 2016 Toyota Highlander puts out a balanced 185 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque while getting an EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway and 20 mpg city. When equipped with this engine, the Highlander can tow up to 1500 pounds. Upgrade to V6 power, and watch output balloon to 270 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. The V6 also comes with available all-wheel drive and can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Interior

All versions of the 2016 Toyota Highlander, except the premium Limited trim with its second row captain’s chairs, come with standard seating for eight passengers in three rows. The dimensions are copious, measuring 158.7 cubic feet of interior space and a maximum cargo capacity of 83.7 cubic feet.
