How to Change Oil in a Toyota Camry

Car servicing mechanic pouring fresh oil to engine

After finding and purchasing the Toyota Camry configuration best-suited for you, it’s essential to keep up with a routine maintenance schedule so your sedan continues performing at its best. One of the easiest and most important services is a Toyota Camry oil change. Whether you prefer to bring in your vehicle for the Toyota service or go the DIY route, we can help you familiarize yourself with the oil change process.

Toyota Camry Oil Change Intervals

It’s recommended to have a Toyota Camry oil change every six months or 5,000 miles – whichever comes first. If you are using synthetic oil, then it needs to be changed every year or 10,000 miles. Consistency is necessary for making sure your vehicle’s engine is running properly and safely.

How to Change Oil in a Toyota Camry

There are two options when it comes to changing the oil in your Camry: You can bring it to the Earl Stewart Toyota service department or go the DIY route at home. If you do that, below are the steps you will want to take.

Parts:

  • Funnel
  • Rags
  • Oil Filter
  • Oil Collection Pan
  • Oil (Check owner’s manual for how many quarts)

Directions:

  1. Place the oil collection pan under the Camry, remove the plug, and drain the oil.
  2. Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new one.
  3. Replace the oil drain plug.
  4. Unscrew the engine oil cap.
  5. Use the funnel to add the amount of oil recommended in your owner’s manual (in quarts).
  6. While adding the oil, make sure there’s nothing leaking from the bottom of your Camry.
  7. Check the oil dipstick, and add more oil as needed.
  8. Reset the maintenance light if it is illuminated.
